Part 2 (intro) and Groove Grove

Part 2 is a tight, instrumental track circa 2001. Listen to it a few times and tell me its not tight. See, told you it was tight. Consists of Beau and I both on guitar and some delay.

"Groove Grove" is another instrumental (for this version) from about the same time. We finished it and recorded it in 2002 or 03 whilest residing in Utah, but I haven't located that recording as yet. The lyrics go something like this:

Martians of Love

"Martians of Love" is probably another one of my favorites. The song title has different meanings, but was first thought of when pseudo-editing the track after we recorded it. The intro has a flange effect that sounds like aliens marching, or whatever they do. Other parts have a spacey, echo effect like we're in space. Or maybe love was just a foreign (alien) idea at the time. Either way, I still love Beaux's solo at the end.

The STM cover art

Here is the cover art from our "demo tape" that my brother Aaron made for us back in high school (1994). Pretty funny. I don't know if we thought it was good back then or what. I'm sure he could come up with something a little better now. Still, its the thought that counts. I think the STM logo definitely has some inspiration from the Stone Temple Pilots (one of the best bands of all time).
Anyway, going by the shadows on the cover i'd say from the left it is Beau, Cameron, then Jared. Hard to tell - what do you think?

There For Me

Beaux always thought this song was about my Dad or something, but its not.
Funny though, because my Dad always told me I sound like a dying animal when I sing...which may or may not be true.

Mo' Mazzies

I went through my box of tapes again and found the "demo" tape for The Springtime Mazzies, which included some songs I didn't know I had. Cameron Egbert's musical influences (as of 1994) will be found on these songs. The quality of these are so-so, because who knows how many times this generic-to-begin-with tape was recorded over. So without further - uh - do (yeah, that's it) I present the following four songs for your listening pleasure and giggles:
1-The instant smash hit "Ice Cream Headache". Another song recorded in Cam's bedroom (ooooh! -- oh grow up!). We actually recorded another version, as well, that was much cooler and refined but that is missing. This song is fun and will having you singing along in no time.
2-"Dolphins" -- Just like many songs I came up with while waiting for Beau, Cameron and I made a good number of songs (silly ones!) while our brother and sister were dating and making out on the couch. Thankfully we had a guitar, a microphone, and I have a great voice so that we could record some memories. Some things I say about dolphins in this song are not really true, ie they can't breath under water - but they are good at jumping out of water!
3-"Girls Don't Like Me" -- Just listen to the song. It is a true story from our lives.
4-"What Ever Happened?" -- I think Cameron and Aaron K. actually came up with this song, but we added it to our collection. This song was performed at (circa) 1994's Crestwood 1st Ward's 1st Talent Show (and possibly last), along with Miss Mazzy. The video of which is still being located, but I won't be too hurt if the world doesn't get to witness it.

Variations on a Freestyle

The original "Freestyle" is lost and gone, but not forgotten. Many times we tried to recreate little snippets from said song/session - "Variations on a Freestyle" is such a song. This might be one of those songs no one will listen to all the way (if not all of them). It even includes some lines from one of our first songs ever, "TMFF (in full effect)" (1992-3) in the line "if you want to listen to what you like you've gotta make it yourself - so here we are, upstairs singing and playing guitar".

How can you not like a song that includes "Jimmy cracked corn and I don't care, Jimmy cracked corn and I don't care..."??? Just listen - pretty funny.

Thunder

Many songs were first conceived while I was waiting for Beaux to show up (since being tardy is his thing). "Thunder" (2002) was one of those songs and was inspired by "Thunder over Louisville" but became something else. This song is probably one of my favorites.

Aaron McCammon mixes things up...

From time to time, Aaron would put his musical touch on some of our music. For the most part, its really the only time any of our stuff had some beats. Two such songs were 1996's "Don't Go Down" which consisted of a Rebirth track I came up with and a guitar riff by Beau. Aaron did the rest. "Thunder" was 2002 and Aaron made it a pretty cool song. Compare it to the "Thunder-reverbed" edition later recorded as a more final version of the song.

Now if we can only find those "Jared the Macker" and other tracks Aaron made back around 1994...

Just Beaux - "Intro to the hymn tape"

This song might be on a more personal note than the rest, but it's still a good one so I'm sharing it. If you don't enjoy it or don't think its good to go, then go ahead and fast-forward it up. haha! (you'll get it when you listen to the song)

Beaux made some original versions of some hymns and sent them to me on my mission just before he left for his. This was the intro to that tape and is a cover of a song from one of our old skating videos "Hoax 2".

Just Jared - "Good question" and "Mountain Dew"

Here are two short songs I made a couple years ago in 2006 or '07.
Not much to them, never really finished, just thought they are kind of fun.

The unrecorded words to "Mountain Dew" known only to Annie :) are as follows:

"Three in the morning
Downin' another Dew
Gotta work in 5 hours (repeat)

I can down Mountain Dew - Like no other..."

A little-known fact behind this song is that it was actually Diet Mountain Dew

Love Bomb

"Love Bomb" was probably recorded in 1997. A good majority of our songs we made up as we went along, hence "freestyle". However, this was one that we didn't really follow that formula. However still, the song does possess a touch of freestyle as we pretty much just made the chorus and went from there.

Hotrod

Circa 1994's "Hotrod" by The Springtime Mazzies features Beau, Jared, and Cameron Egbert. Recorded in Cameron's basement while we all enjoyed endless Otter Pops. Recorded around the same time was the well-received "Ice Cream Headache", however said song can't be located. Either way, this is a fun one. Enjoy.

Part 2 (She)

Up next will be a song from around 2002-03 to give a comparison to our beginning sounds. This one was actually not recorded on the 'ole karaoke machine as you can easily tell. Written in Louisville and later recorded in Utah by Aaron McCammon on his way moving back to Kentucky. This song is both Beaux and I on guitar and singing.

Never officially had a name, we always pseudo-called it "Part 2", but there really wasn't ever a Part 1.

Miss Mazzy! Spring!

First up, we'll of course have to start with "Miss Mazzy" from when we were in 8th grade. The funny thing about most of these songs is that they were recorded on my old karaoke machine - which I don't think was ever even used for karaoke. Older recordings recorded on just a tape deck mic were either misplaced, recorded over, or stolen by my brother Nathan (to which we blame for a lot of tapes) and recorded over. Anyway, amazingly overall the sound quality through the years is decent. Later in high school the microphones started going out, but that just gives the songs a little more flavor.

Anyway, "Miss Mazzy" and "Spring" were based loosely on two girls named Heather and Rachel, aka Mazzy and Spring, that we met one day outside of school while we were rollerblading. We recorded "Miss Mazzy" and it was an instant hit! ;) Heather (Spring) was jealous so we then had to make the song "Spring", which never achieved the widespread acclaim of "Miss Mazzy". Now, go listen to these and laugh!

Welcome to our freestyle show!

This blog will archive the musical sounds of Beaux Underwood & Jared McCammon from almost the beginning of their recordings around 1993 to their latest in 2004 and beyond. Lost and gone forever are many earlier "hits" including "TMFF (In Full Effect)" and "Bite Me", a parody of Nirvana's "Rape Me". Also gone are personal favorites, such as the infamous "Freestyle" and some Springtime Mazzy era recordings featuring Cameron Egbert such as "Ice Cream Headache" and "Dolphins". However, many tape recordings have survived time and many moves. Most have become digitized by yours truly and will be shared here.

These recordings/songs represent some of my favorite memories and times with my good pal, Beaux (formerly known as Beau). I wish I had all of them, as well as all songs recorded with other studs Cameron, Richard, Aaron, Matt, etc.

I think each song will have a story or memory that will prove to be amusing in addition to the music. So for those or you interested, however few, welcome and leave comments or thoughts.
